About Me

Shreya Jain

I'm a fourth year Computer Engineering student at the University of Toronto with a minor in AI. I like building things that solve real problems and I'm most energized when I'm learning something new.

At ONxpress I saw how many moving parts shape large scale construction work and how much pressure teams face navigating regulations and daily workflows. Seeing hundreds of people rely on a tool I built showed me how meaningful well designed software can be in a complex system.

It also helped me see how many gaps exist across different fields and how much I enjoy building tools that make those spaces work better. I want to keep taking on projects that address those gaps so I can learn, grow and make an impact.

Experience

Software Engineering Intern

Google (Compute Engine Team)

May 2025 – Aug 2025 | Toronto, Canada

C++ (Scaffolding)

  • Designed and built a parallel service layer (Instance Manager Frontend) in Compute Engine to handle high-traffic requests, offloading work from the main system (Instance Manager) to improve performance and scalability
  • Integrated the Instance Manager Frontend architecture into system tests and added targeted tests for one of the RPCs

Full-Stack Software Engineer Intern

Flywheel Digital (Perpetua)

September 2024 – April 2025 | Toronto, Canada

React, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python (Django), GCP, Contentful, Mixpanel, Segment, Postman

  • Currently implementing full-stack integration for a key algorithm designed to optimize Amazon ad placements and improve client's ad performance
  • Implemented segment tracking for user actions in backend services and fixing bugs across frontend (React, JS, TypeScript) and backend (Python)
  • Refactored core bid logic, replacing outdated hard-coded values with dynamic API-driven data, improving accuracy and long-term maintainability

Software Developer Intern

ONxpress

May 2024 – September 2024 | Toronto, Canada

React, Python, Figma, PowerAutomate, PowerApps, PowerPages, PowerBI

  • Led the development of PAIR, a custom agile project management web-app tailored to company's unique needs, utilized by 400+ employees daily
  • Built end-to-end features, integrating backend logic with Python/PowerAutomate and front-end UI using React, Figma and PowerApps
  • Iteratively refined the tool by incorporating user feedback and new company requirements, boosting overall software usability
  • Automated email workflows and data analytics reporting, reducing manual tasks by 10+ hours per week and increasing team productivity

Machine Learning Engineer Intern

PRISM Lab, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital

May 2023 – August 2023 | Toronto, Canada

Python (PyTorch, TensorFlow, MNE), CUDA, MATLAB

  • Developed Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) software in Python, enabling children with motor and speech disabilities to control devices via brain signals
  • Refined BCI signal accuracy with real-time denoising, training neural networks to 94.4% accuracy, minimizing noise from eyeblinks and movements
  • Validated model robustness with automated tests against diverse artifacts and datasets, achieving 85% accuracy to match leading offline solutions
  • Partnered with University of Toronto Schools to teach 20+ high school students in a weeklong summer camp about neuroscience and BCI technology

Software Engineer Intern

Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG)

May 2022 – September 2022 | Toronto, Canada

Java, Postman, Docker & Kubernetes, Jira

  • Contributed to Twilio integration within a large-scale enterprise, enhancing client notification system with faster, more reliable message delivery across various channels through Java, MongoDB, and RESTful APIs via Postman
  • Collaborated with a team of 10+ on daily bug fixes, developing various automated integration/smoke tests for smooth software transitions
  • Monitored product development cycles with Jira, actively contributing to ongoing quality improvements and ensuring reliability at all usage stages

Projects

Some of my recent work

BuildWise

AI Driven Construction Proposal Assessment Assistant

System that analyzes construction proposals and flags potential risks and Ontario building code violations. Combines a custom knowledge graph with a fine tuned model to extract technical details, retrieve relevant regulations and produce compliance feedback.

AquaLens

Technical Project Lead | Engineers without Borders

Flutter-based hybrid app for image-based water quality assessment, designed to assist farmers in Mexico. Engineered and integrated a Firebase database to manage user data across multiple platforms (macOS, Android, iOS).

City Explorer

Geographic Mapping Software

Google Maps-like application with OpenStreetMap API featuring real-time social heatmaps, weather forecasting, and smart routing. Implemented A* and Dijkstra's algorithms for route optimization and solved TSP with 3-Opt and genetic algorithms.

Free Gear Toronto

Car Racing Game

Car racing game developed in C/Assembly with DE1-SoC Board for direct hardware control and VGA output. Built a custom game engine for real-time car control with dynamic graphics and optimized performance using Python pre-loading scripts.
